The cold of winter is harsh – especially if you’re not prepared for it. But every year vulnerable people wander into the cold and many times the story turns tragic.

Project Lifesaver is intended to save lives by decreasing the amount of time it takes to find someone who wanders away from safety. The person wears a small, watch-sized transmitter that can be traced by the Sheriffs Office in case the person cannot be found by loved ones.

Project Lifesaver is meant for people of any age who are at risk for wandering away from safety. This includes older adults with memory impairment and people with Down’s Syndrome or autism.

For more information on getting a loved on enrolled in Project Lifesaver, call the Cass County COA at (269) 445-8110 and ask for Deputy MaKenzie Kreiner.
